Analysis and Evaluation - Step 2

The summary of the situation analysis and environment analysis forms the basis of the needs assessment. Since it is about the need for the implementation of Enterneering® or its individual elements, it is important to focus on the greatest need in the areas of culture, people and organisation, as described at the end of the previous paragraph. In the simplest case, the table of contents of the Enterneering® app, or ideally, the ‘Enterneering® Radar’, can be used as a guide for this needs assessment and allocation. This is a simple yet effective digital tool from the Enterneering® app. By employing this model, the need for action can be determined for all Enterneering® elements on a five-point rating scale. The greater the deflection of the scale per element, the greater the need for action. If a company had no need for action, all five rings next to the central circle would be empty.

Depending on the individual case, the outcome of the needs assessment may be clear, and more in the nature of improvement actions. There are also many cases where the list of needs is very long, and it soon becomes clear that the implementation of Enterneering® is a longer journey with certain unknowns and challenges. At this point, the management requires another important skill: the ability to think and act strategically. This ability includes knowing and not ignoring the realistic measures of speed and duration in the context of transformation or evolution.

It is legitimate, and often even beneficial, to target issues with short-term prospects of success. Not harvesting these 'low-hanging fruits' is just as inadvisable as deliberately postponing or delaying the more challenging issues that require more time. In only a very few cases does postponing significant measures lead to a reduction in the overall time required for a successful realisation.
